ABOUT THE ARTIST

Sheryl Stalnaker’s award winning oil paintings have been shown in juried shows such as the Telfair Museum of Art Fair in Savannah and the Piccolo Spoleto Exhibitions in Charleston. She has also shown her work in galleries in North and South Carolina and Georgia.

 

Stalnaker loves to paint from life whenever possible. “Painting from life allows me to see with fresh eyes and engage all my senses in the creation of my art.” When painting in the studio, she strives to capture the same energy and fluency that painting from life captures on the canvas. Stalnaker explores a variety of subjects including landscape and still life. She captures the moods and light of her chosen subjects with rich and vibrant paint application, painting frequently with a palette knife instead of a brush.

 

Sheryl has always possessed an artist’s eye and heart, studying art since she was a child, then studying as an adult in workshops and classes across the U.S. and abroad. After graduating from the University of Washington and working in the corporate and business worlds, she returned to her true passion of creating art. The Charleston City Paper selected Stalnaker as  "One to Watch .” Said the City Paper, “Plein air painting is a genre that seems to be saturated with talented local artists, but it’s often hard to distinguish one from the next. One particular artist who has set herself apart is Sheryl Stalnaker.”
